23/08/2016:4th International Symposium for ICS & SCADA Cyber Security Research 2

The 4th International Symposium for ICS & SCADA Cyber Security brings together researchers with an interest in the security of industrial control systems in the light of their increasing exposure to cyber-space. The topics of interests are broad, ranging from security for hardware/firmware used in industrial control systems, to system aspects of ICS such as secure architectures and vulnerability screening to the human aspects of cyber security such as behaviour modelling and training. ICS-CSR is a research conference aimed at high quality academic research in any of the specified themes and topics of interest. We welcome original contributions that present innovative ideas, proof of concepts, use cases, and results from a variety of domains with a wish to enhance the security of infrastructure.

This year we are expanding the conference to host multiple tracks on the second day of the conference. The tracks are on: i) Smart Grid Security and ii) Human Factors in CI Security. When submitting your paper's, please indicate if you are submitting to a specific track or the main conference track.

Proceedings of the ICS-CSR are hosted by the British Computer Society (BCS) in their eWiC series. Proceedings are indexed in the ACM Digital LibraryEBSCODBPL and Google Scholar

This year's conference will take place on the 23rd to 25th of August 2016 at the Queen's Belfast University, UK

As with last year's edition, we will be inviting the best conference submissions to a special issue on Cyber Security of Industrial Control Systems. Papers will have to be significantly extended and will undergo an additional peer-review process before acceptance. The call for extended papers will be distributed at the conference.

15/03/2016: Belfast 2016 - 6th World Cyber Security Technology Research Summit

Running on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th March, Belfast 2016 will be CSIT's 6th World Cyber Security Technology Research Summit. Part of the Summit's uniqueness is its bringing together the international research community alongside industry leaders, government policy makers, start-ups and SME's from around the world.

In keeping with CSIT's renewed Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC) mandate, the Belfast 2016 theme is "Scale".

For researchers and technologists the event will focus on how new innovations can be scaled successfully to have a positive global impact on cyber security. For the commercially minded, this event represents an opportunity to learn from, and contribute to, the growth of new cyber security companies with global ambitions

With the opportunity to extend your trip to Northern Ireland into St. Patrick's Day for golf or sightseeing at Game of Thrones filming locations makes this the must attend event in the cyber security calendar. A Belfast 2016 overview and outline agenda is attached for your information.

02/09/2014: Ethical Hacking Workshop
The Ethical Hacking Workshop will be delivered in partnership with OWASP Ireland
The Ethical Hacking Workshop will be delivered in partnership with OWASP Ireland

The Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) is pleased to invite you to a free Ethical Hacking Workshop.

  • How do you know a web site is secure?
  • How do you know your credentials are safe online?
  • What makes a web site safe?
  • Do you even know the questions to ask to help determine this?

HTTPs is not the answer and trust is no longer a solution. The only way to be sure is to perform ethical hacking on the web application using a combination of manual and automated pentesting techniques. These skills are in high demand in the market place right now

-

But how can one get them?

Well that's easy... if you take the right first step!

-

Join Queen's University Belfast's Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) in partnership with IBM's Ethical hacking team, The Irish Honeynet Project and OWASP Ireland leaders in a 3 hour hands on workshop that will bring attendee's up to speed on all the latest and greatest security testing techniques that are a concern in the market today.

Compete against your peers to solve increasingly complex security puzzles derived from real world security threats.

Learn how to write and audit secure code as you progress through the Capture the Flag tournament.

People at the event will leave with a real familiarity of security testing best practice, terminology, workflow's and commonly used tool kits.

-

Bring an open mind and your laptop.

Free lunch will be provided.

When: Tuesday 2nd September
Time: 11:30am to 3:30pm

05/08/2014: CSIT Summer Webinar Series 2014
CSIT: A global innovation hub for cyber security
CSIT: A global innovation hub for cyber security

CSIT announces 2nd Summer Webinar Series

In 2013 we introduced a new Summer Webinar Series which provided bite-sized overviews of our research findings and technology innovations delivered to you right at your desk. Recordings of these are still available to view on our website here.

We had a great level of interest in these online events and have received positive feedback from those who dialled in. As a result we now plan to run this summer webinar series each year and have brought together a programme of four research areas which we plan to cover each Tuesday throughout August 2014.

Webinars

The webinars will be introduced by a member of our commercial team and delivered by a mix of engineers, researchers and academics who are teaching on our new MSc Cyber Security. Topics have been chosen to reflect the bread of research carried out at CSIT as well as innovations at various stages of maturity.

To register please click on the corresponding link to be taken through to our GoToWebinar registration pages for each webiner below:

  1. Privacy and Ethics in Cyber Security - Tue 5th Aug - Register
  2. Detecting Anomalies, state of art and introduction to Yagada - Tue 12th Aug - Register
  3. Dynamic analysis for malware detection - Tue 19th Aug - Register
  4. Physical Unclonable Functions/PKI - Tue 26th Aug - Register

Who should attend?

The webinars are open to all companies and organisations who are interested in adopting or licensing this technology for use within their own solutions. Much of the technology and engineering expertise is transferable to numerous alternative applications. We are happy to discuss contract R&D engagements to explore alternative applications.

Two of the webinars will be delivered by new lecturers on our MSc Cyber Security so potential students or those who have already applied for this course of study might be particularly interested in registering.
